SBL-EAI-04308: Operation '%1' of Web Service '%2.%3' at port '%4' failed with the following explanation: "%5".

Applies to:
Siebel Marketing - Version: 7.8 [19038] to 8.1.1.2 - Release: V7 to V8
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms
During campaign launch, whenever the wave launch time exceeds an hour, it fails with the following error,

"Error/Warning : Error invoking service 'Wave Execution', method 'SendOffers' at step 'Send Offers / Vendor Lists'.(SBL-BPR-00162)
--
Operation 'getJobInfo' of Web Service 'com.siebel.analytics.web/soap/v1.JobManagementService' at port 'JobManagementServiceSoap' failed with the following explanation: "Unable to find job with Id "381". Too much time may have expired since you generated or accessed this job.".(SBL-EAI-04308)"

The same campaign was launched again and the same error was encountered. The task log of the wave launch is shown below,

1.Start Time : 01/30/2008 17:35:53
2.Starting launch of Wave 7.
3.Generating list for Export Format '/shared/COACH User Segments Folder/MyNokia Email Personalization Format_V11' and Wave '7'.
4.Error/Warning : Error invoking service 'Wave Execution', method 'SendOffers' at step 'Send Offers / Vendor Lists'.(SBL-BPR-00162)
--
Operation 'getJobInfo' of Web Service 'com.siebel.analytics.web/soap/v1.JobManagementService' at port 'JobManagementServiceSoap' failed with the following explanation: "Unable to find job with Id "2239". Too much time may have expired since you generated or accessed this job.".(SBL-EAI-04308)

Is there any session setting to be altered inorder to avoid this error?.Kindly suggest a solution.

Cause
Parameter "MarketingJobsLogSize" controls the number of jobs in the job history log. It has a default value of 100. If job history exceeds this parameter, then it will erase the oldest 20% jobs. The actual jobs will not be killed but they can't be accessible either because the jobID / jobInfo will be invalid. ( and error message "Too much time may have expired since ..." will show up )

Similarly you will get an error on loading campaign while polling marketing server based on that erased jobID

Job history is reset on restarting SAW server.

Solution
Change request 12-1NZ6T43 was logged to change the behavior of the application regarding MarketingJobLogSize parameter :

Current behavior of MarketingJobLogSize is :
If job history exceeds this parameter, then it will erase the oldest 20% jobs regardless of their status ( running / cancelled ). The actual jobs will not be killed but they can't be accessible either because the jobID / jobInfo will be invalid.

Desired behavior :

Instead of purging 20% of the oldest jobs, delete 20% of the completed or cancelled jobs, but leave the running ones.

This bug has been Closed/Fixed in OBIEE 10.1.3.4 .

Symptoms
We are using the webservice “JobManagementService” to write a list file in the Markeing Analytics web server.
We are calling the web service by the Business Service “Mktg Saw Service”, method: WriteListFiles
We passed all the required input arguments i,e,

ServerId: 04-C0BRB
ReportPath: "/shared/S&D Target List for 2008-2009/GT - Market Coverage Target List/Target_Market_List_for_Conveniance_Retailing"
JobType: WriteListFiles
FileSystem: /siebelfs/

While simulating the business service , first I am logging in into “Default Analytics Web Server” using the webservice “SAWSessionServiceSoap” through Business Service “Mktg Saw Service”, method: Logon

Next when I am invoking the web service “JobManagementService” to write a list file in the Markeing Analytics web server by the Business Service “Mktg Saw Service”, method: WriteListFiles, we are getting a error -----

“Operation ‘writeListFiles’ of Web Service ‘com.siebel.analytics.web/soap/v1.JobManagementService’ at posrt ‘JobMangementServiceSoap’ failed with the following explanation “Unknown method: writeListFiles” (SBL-EAI-04308)

Cause

connection to the Siebel Analytics Web Server (SAW) is done through the corresponding Web Services (SAWSessionServiceSoap, WebCatalogServiceSoap and JobManagementServiceSoap) that should be configured in the Administration - Marketing > Servers view for the “Default Marketing Server” entry as instructed by the Siebel Marketing Installation and Administration Guide Version 7.7 > Installing and Administering Siebel Marketing. The mentioned error was generated when invoking these Web Services to connect to the SAW in order to get the proper folders list.

Solution

Issue has been fixed after verifying setting -found dicrepancy in "JobMangementServiceSoap".

In the address instead of using
http://IP/Analytics/saw.dll?SoapImpl=jobManagementService"
we were using
http://IP/Analytics/saw.dll?SoapImpl=nQSessionService

after making the change it started working .

Check the settings of the outbound web services under Marketing Administration > Default Analytics Web Server, this is described in Siebel Marketing Installation and Administration Guide > Installing and Administering Siebel Marketing > Updating Marketing Connection Settings > Connecting the Siebel Server to the Analytics Web Server

Could you please check the Web Service Port Address is:

1) Go to Administration - Web Services > Outbound Web Services.

2) Locate the record where Name = JobManagementService

3) In the middle "Service Port" applet, locate the " JobMangementServiceSoap " record.

4) In the "Service Port" applet > " JobMangementServiceSoap " record, the Address field.

SBL-EAI-04308

Applies to:
Siebel Marketing - Version: 7.8.2 [19213] and later [Release: V7 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal
Marketing system tasks - emails stop going out for a particular campaign with below error messages:

<< Error/Warning : Error invoking service 'Wave Execution', method 'SendOffers' at step 'Send Offers / Vendor Lists'.(SBL-BPR-00162) HTTP Request error during 'Submitting Data SendHTTP request': 'Status code - 404'(SBL-EAI-04117) Error/Warning : Error invoking service 'Wave Execution', method 'SendOffers' at step 'Send Offers / Vendor Lists'.(SBL-BPR-00162) Operation 'createMailing' of Web Service 'urn:xml-send-mailing.SendMailingService' at port 'SendMailing' failed with the following explanation: "java.lang.NullPointerException".(SBL-EAI-04308) >>

What we can do to keep this from happening again? What caused the issue? How we could troubleshoot this issue?
Solution

For the benefit of other users, our customer resolved the issue following next steps:

1) Components bounced:

-- Bounce Siebel Email Sending Daemon (ESD) on siebelmailprd
-- Bounce Marketing Object Manager on Siebel Servers
-- Bounce EAI Object Manager on Siebel Servers
-- Bounce Workflow Process Manager on Siebel Servers

The wave launch still errored.

2) Additional steps:

-- Stop ESD
-- Renamed the \\siebelmailprd\c$\esd\state_dir\mailings folder to mailings.old
-- Created new \\siebelmailprd\c$\esd\state_dir\mailings folder
-- Start the ESD

The jobs ran successfully

On a separate note, to add information about "java.lang.NullPointerException" error message, the Java official documentation points that this error occurs when the application (in this case the operation 'createMailing') attempts to use null in a case where an object is required. These include:

-- Calling the instance method of a null object.
-- Accessing or modifying the field of a null object.
-- Taking the length of null as if it were an array.
-- Accessing or modifying the slots of null as if it were an array.
-- Throwing null as if it were a Throwable value.

As the ESD.log file was not available, it was not possible to determine the source of this problem. Further investigations will be required if this problem occurs again.

Solution
For the benefit of other readers,

The customer has installed a non-ENU environment (DEU) and the default setting for the report parameters under user preferences was set to ENU. After changing the appropriate parameters to DEU the report generation works fine.

Enhancement request 12-1FEVOP6 was filed to set the parameters to the installed language (in case there is only one installed).

Cause
This is caused due to the incorrect naming of .xlf file.

Solution
The xlf file was named as PersonList_en_US.xlf. After removing the _en_US upload went fine.

Note: The en_US xlf is automatically appended by the upload process. So, it is not necessary to append this to the name before upload.

Applies to:
Siebel Email Marketing Server - Version: 8.0.0.1 SIA [20408] to 8.1 [21039] - Release: V8 to V8
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Sporadically the Campaign Launch operation failed with the following error message:

"Cannot create mailing subdirectory d:\Programme\esd\state_dir\mailings\00000098" when the Siebel Server is restarted."

Most of the time for the first Campaign/Wave launch after a ESD and Siebel Server environment restart.

Cause

We could not verifty the root cause of the error, but further customer tests show that usually this can be reproduce for Campaign with Two Lists and after a ESD and Siebel Server/Gateway restart.

User can launch again the same Wave that gave the error and the second attempt works fine.

We were able to reproduce the issue internally when two lists are associated to the Campaign and after an ESD and Siebel environment restart. Change Request# 12-1RMZKJH has been opened for Oracle Engineering to investigate.

Solution

Oracle Engieering has fixed the issue:

1. Go to metalink3.oracle.com

2. Login with you SSO or customer login

3. Go to Patches and Downloads Tab

4. Click on Oracle, Siebel and Hyperion Products (note you may need to refresh your page several times due to a metalink3 defect to see the tab)

4. Choose simple Search

5. Under Patch number/Name put in 8343232 and chooses Microsoft Windows 32 bit for platform.

Follow the instructions on the Readme.html.

Also Note: in this case please follow the instructions of the following document published on Metalink:

How to apply Email Marketing Server patch EMS [2012] correctly and missing esd.log/ctd.log after aplying the patch (Doc ID 1064861.1).

  1. Hi

I had the issue that was previously published as Siebel SR 38-3099876411. I changed the Report Parameters of the User under Tools->User Preferences->Report Parameters
    Locale = ENU
    Language = ENU
    and it solved the problem...
Thanks a lot for the blog...
