Symptoms

We have a requirement to use the import object for importing records into a custom table. But there seems to be a restriction of 2000 records allowed, beyond which we receive this error:
"The maximum number of records allowed for each import operation is 2000. Please break your import file into multiple files containing fewer than 2000 records or use Siebel Interface Manager.(SBL-UIF-00212) "

Please advice if there is any way we can overcome this limit.

Cause

The customer had configured an Import Object using Siebel Tools to import data using Client-side import in Siebel application (via the applet-level menu import functionality).
Client side import is documented in the Bookshelf 8.1: Configuring Siebel Business Applications > Configuring Tables, Business Components, Links, and Business Objects > Customizing a Business Component Field > Configuring Client-Side Import to Update a Business Component Field

NOTE: In the standard Siebel repository the BC 'Contact' is configured as an Import Object with fields defined as Import Field child objects. In standard Siebel application client-side import is available in "Contacts" screen.

The customer received the following error when importing data:
- - -
The maximum number of records allowed for each import operation is 2000. Please break your import file into multiple files containing fewer than 2000 records or use Siebel Interface Manager.(SBL-UIF-00212).
- - -

The behavior observed when trying to import more than 2000 records is expected and cannot be changed. This behavior is documented in the Bookshelf 8.1: Siebel Fundamentals > Sharing Information > Importing Data
...
You can import a maximum of 2000 records at one time.
...

Solution

If you need to import more than 2000 records at one time the suggestion is to use Siebel Enterprise Integration Manager (EIM). Currently, there is no workaround for this.
Bug 10515045 - "Maximum upload capability for the Import Functionality" has been already logged as an enhancment request with no ETA.
