SBL-CDM-00211: Unable to import message associated with key '%1'

Symptoms

SBL-DAT-00225, SBL-DAT-00235, SBL-DAT-00498, SBL-CDM-00211

Hello,

we are not able to export/import string messages.

Tools > screens > system administration > strings

On some computers, we are not able to export (pressing the "export messages..." button bring up the pop up where you decide the file format, but pressing "export" doesn't do anything). But this is not generalized.

When we are able to create an export, we are unable to import it.
Messages that we get are:

"Unable to import message associated with key 'BFHP0001'(SBL-CDM-00211)

'Translate' is a required field. Please enter a value for the field.
(SBL-DAT-00498)"

The translate field is indeed filled with the value 'Y'. If we delete the entry "BFHP00001" then the error occurs for another record.

Or we also get this error

"Unable to import message associated with key 'The file %s is not of the correct type or format.
'(SBL-CDM-00211)

Value too long for field 'Translate' (maximum size 1).(SBL-DAT-00235)"

While the field exists and is set to 'Y'...

Can you please help?

Kindly find attached two sample export files.

Cause

The was was determined to be a product defect when importing strings with carriage returns.

Solution

DESCRIPTION:

Import of smt files containing strings with carriage return fails.

SYMPTOMS:

Start Tools
Select Screens > System Administration > strings
Create new record with carriage return in message text field.
Export record as smt file
Import smt file will show error:
Unable to import message associated with key '0'(SBL-CDM-00211)
The value entered in field Message Area of buscomp Message Def does not match any value in the bounded pick list PickList Message
Area.(SBL-DAT-00225)

or with 2 CR in the text:
Unable to import message associated with key 'ddd '(SBL-CDM-00211)
Value too long for field 'Translate' (maximum size 1).(SBL-DAT-00235)

with 3 cr:

'Translate' is a required field. Please enter a value for the field.
(SBL-DAT-00498)

SOLUTION:

Change request: 12-NE4HVJ Can not import message string with carriage return.
It is actually not possible to import smt files containing carriage returns.
To workaround this behavior, please use .rc or .odf format for string map export/import.

I have also logged enhancement request 12-NNR23Q: It should be possible to migrate string messages to message categories.

The Siebel bookshelf 7.7 (Using Siebel Tools Version 7.7 page 29) indicates that the message strings are only for Siebel internal use.
